Cam &  Valerie Hamm

Cam, Valerie and Noah are with SIM in Cameroon, developing an alphabet.

Praise the Lord!

* We had a great weekend at Davenport and Wenatchee.  We are now safely back in Richland for another 10 days of visiting supporters.  The kids are travelling well.

* God did it again!  Valerie's Canadian residence application has been approved and we mailed her passport to get the visa stamped inside.  There may still be a month before the process is complete, but this is truly record timing!

* We have made contact with a couple of Bafanji-speakers in California.  We talked in Bafanji on the phone!

* We are so thankful that our delay is for reasons of residency and paperwork rather than any physical health issues.  Praise the Lord for good health!

Lord, we need You . . .

. . . now

* Pray this new contact with Bafanji-speakers in USA will grow into something that can be of help to us as we work on Bafanji data in Canada.

* Our health insurance hearing will not be for another six months.  Pray that we could make a good decision about what to do (stay and wait as one administrator has said, or go and come back for the hearing).  We really want to go back to Cameroon and continue our work and relationships there.  Pray for wisdom as we discuss this with our supervisors. We are asking God to open the way that seems so closed right now.

* We have the next ten days in Richland, with one church meeting scheduled (Oct 30, 7 pm at First Baptist Church in Richland) and many personal visits.

* Pray for a buyer for our American car.  Valerie's uncle is helping us with this (listed on Craig's List, we've lowered the price).

. . . in the future

* The quick finishing process of Valerie's resident visa (like the USA "Green Card").

* Wisdom about how to act regarding hearing not before spring 2009 with the BC Health Board.

* The right timing for returning to Cameroon.

. . . in Cameroon

Our colleague, Dan Grove, has started Bible translation with two languages -- Bambalang and Bamunka. They have finished four sections of Luke and the Christmas story which they will print in booklets and put on cassette for the Christmas season. They also hope to record the Christmas story and have the recording put on Megavoice devices (http://www.megavoice.com) which are small digital players that can be used in villages.  Let's pray that this will go ahead smoothly and have a significant impact on these communities and especially those who cannot read.

October 20-31, our other teammates are leading two primer workshops.  The goal is to create lessons that will teach people who have never read before how to read their own language.

And, Clifford has resumed his seminary studies in anticipation of working on Bible translation in Bafanji. We've been able to write him, and received our first email news back from him this week!  Pray for the others God may be preparing from Bafanji and the other languages as well.
